Celebrating 100 years of Poland

The 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence was celebrated throughout the UK to commemorate 11 November 1918. With a population of 1.02 million in the UK, the Polish Embassy and the Polish Cultural Institute launched a series of events to commemorate the event. One of the highlights of the celebration were Polish Poems on the Underground which was supported by the Mayor of London. The lifeline of London was painted red with the colours and words of Poland.

Along with London the centenary was celebrated world over with the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Burj Khalifa, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Christ the King in Lisbon, the Television Tower in Prague, Three Crosses in Vilnius and the Museum of Australian Democracy in Canberra being illuminated in the Poland’s national colours.

Here and Now 365 has always celebrated the multiculturalism and ethnic diversity of the UK.
