Play Poland 2012 Film Festival – Second Edition
Having commenced in September and lasting until December, this international film festival brings the best of Polish cinema to Canada, Norway, Ireland and Great Britain. The participating UK cities are Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Oxford, Belfast and London.
Comprehensive market research by Polish Art Europe (PAE) has been made prior to choosing the list of feature movies to be shown during the festival, to ensure that the absolute creme of Polish cinema is promoted on the global scene. Short films, student projects, animations and experimental documentaries are a fair part of this complex undertaking, as well as exhibitions of artsy film posters created by Polish designers both for the local market and Hollywood.
Powerful contenders for European Film Awards nomination, ‘In Darkness’ by Agnieszka Holland, ‘Rose’ by Wojciech Smarzowski and ‘Carnage’ by Roman Polański will join the remarkable Oscar candidate ’80 million’ by Golden Lion winner Waldemar Krzystek for screening. This is an open invitation for anyone to catch up on cutting-edge European cinema and for the well rooted Polish community in the UK to support their national film industry.
UK venues include Cafe 1001 in London (all projections free), the Mac in Birmingham and the Filmhouse of Edinburgh.
Here and Now 365 relishes cultural diversity, and seeing as UK-residing Polish nationals make up an important part of our business, we take this opportunity to help promote this festival to our wider multicultural audience. The quality and profoundness of Polish cinema is world renowned, so anyone who fancies themselves a cinephile should make a note to go see an event of this year’s Play Poland Film Festival.
