News Wrap: Italy’s city Turin set to go vegetarian
In a move aimed to promote vegan and vegetarian diets to safeguard our environment, health of the citizens and welfare of animals, the Mayor of Turin Chiara Appendino has decided to turn the city famous for its exquisite meats, cheese and wine into a vegetarian hub by promoting vegan diets in schools and getting meats of the menu at restaurants.
Some locals have accused her for making the city a nanny state, while a few have welcomed the decision. Vegetarianism has been on the rise in Turin with the city boasting of 30 vegetarian restaurants, which have mostly opened in the last few years.
